3 Tips for Handling Overwhelm in Your Content Marketing

Overwhelm is most often a mindset. If you think about all the things you have to do, you’ll be face down on the floor.

Figuring out where to start with content marketing can be overwhelming. You have a website, social feeds, email, blogging, direct mail (wait, do people still do direct mail anymore?), inbound, outbound, funnels. And your head’s spinning.

First, breathe deep. You don’t have to do all forms of marketing at once. If you’re a small business, you need to keep your efforts contained and hyperfocused on your ideal customer.

Slow down with these 3 tips.

  1. Choose your channels carefully. Where are your best customers? Facebook? LinkedIn? Twitter? Instagram? TikTok? Facebook still has the most people and is a good place to begin. But your customers are going to use platforms differently. If you target a younger audience and have strong visuals, consider Instagram. If you’re more B2B, focus on LinkedIn.

  2. Be intentional with your content. Blogs are big for content marketing. They’re also expensive and time consuming. You may not need one. Maybe a series of white papers or case studies work best for you, along with promoting them on social media. Consider your key messages, your audience’s actions and your budget to figure out where your energy is best spent.

  3. Outsource. Maybe you just need someone to convert your existing assets into some shareable content. Or you need ongoing help creating a content plan and calendar, blogging help, social media management. Freelancers are a great option to do these tasks for you and keep you on track.
